Exposing Yourself in the Kitchen
Let's talk open shelving in kitchens. Love the look! They can make a space appear rustic or industrial, glamorous or simplified all by the hardware, type of shelving selected, and what is being displayed. Take a look below at some of my favorite applications of open shelving found on Pinterest.
With that being said, open shelving is not for everyone. You only have plastic sippy cups and plates in the shapes of cartoon characters? Not for you. You can't for the life of you keep up with dusting no matter how hard you try? Pass. Your kitchen is in desperate need of functional space to store your 15 year old toaster you got as a wedding present and the wok you never use but keep around just in case? Don't lose more storage just for the sake of a look.
Design should be beautiful. Yes. It should excite you and thrill you. But don't mistake a beautiful space for one that doesn't actually fit your lifestyle and think you can make it work. Along with beauty should be function. Sometimes being able to close the cupboard door is the quickest way to hide what we all really have in our kitchens- chaos. And that can be a beautiful thing too.
